About the Artist
Caroline Thompson is a visual artist who has been drawing since she could pick up a pencil. Although she was born in Las Vegas, Nevada, she calls Elkhorn, Nebraska home after relocating when she was three years old. She is currently on track to graduate in May 2026 from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a Bachelor’s degree in studio art, and will pursuing more exhibition opportunities available to her.
She has always enjoyed all forms of art, but specializes in charcoal drawing and oil painting for their unique ability to capture the tiniest detail. Her fascination in pulling the emotive aspects from flat media inspires her to create pieces from relatable experiences and atmospheres. She is currently working on a collection called “That Dog in Me”, showcasing scenes of emotion and experience personified through metaphors of the animal kingdom. She hopes to utilize her skills to create works that connect people and spark conversation about what it is to feel emotion.

Artist Statement
My art focuses to connect and create conversation about the human experience and emotion through dramatic color and realistic techniques. I switch between oil paints or charcoal to create realistic and technical interpretations of the world and people around me. As an emotional artist myself, I strive to seek out other empaths and perspectives by utilizing color, composition, and lighting to convey specific emotion. I am heavily inspired by music, my own experiences, and the people in my life, and often showcased these as subjects through metaphors in my works.
Since I was a child, I have always been sensitive to emotional experiences. My art started as a way to impress and connect people around me that feel a similar way. As I have grown older, I have found purpose in creating pieces that people linger around to interpret in different ways. One of my biggest inspirations in my journey to accomplish this has been art history, and the symbolism used in pieces from the High Renaissance era. I am fascinated by artists in this movement like Leonardo Da Vinci and Titian, but I also draw inspiration from emotional Romantic era painters like Francisco Goya. Many of my works reflect similar realistic imagery and techniques to convey abstract emotional themes and experiences of my own.
My relationships in life are where I draw creative inspiration from. I enjoy using metaphors in my art to depict how I feel about people or objects I have interacted with. These metaphors usually revolve around painting people as objects or animals to represent their roles or how I see them. I find this to be a very creative outlet to personify subjects with human emotion, and I aim to create a relatable experience that my audience can relate to.
